Skyfall is an upcoming Bond film that is set for release in the United Kingdom on October 26, 2012. Skyfall DVD release date will be set for February or March 2013. This is the 23rd James Bond Film. The movie is produced by Eon Productions for Sony Pictures Entertainment, Columbia Pictures, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
Although the movie comes after Quantum of Solace, the events in the film are not directly related to its forerunner. Sam Mendes directs the film that stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, and Judi Dench. Craig has done the Bond role for the third time in this movie and Dench reprised her role as M for the seventh time.
The story revolves around Bond and his loyalty to M. upon discovering her past; his allegiance is put into question. When M16 is attacked, Bond realizes that he must make a firm decision to hunt and destroy every threat despite the loss that he is going to suffer.
Other members of the cast are Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Albert Finney, Rory Kinnear, Helen McCory, Berenice Marlohe, Ben Whishaw and Ola Rapace. Until today, Fiennes' role remains undisclosed. We have no clue except that he said that the role is really interesting and fun. Whether it is a marketing strategy or the film really lives up to it, you will find out upon seeing the film in the big screen. The same goes for Finney, so in total, there are two mysterious roles that you must not miss.
When the role was offered to Craig, he said that he was well aware about the challenges. Indeed, the Bond franchise is a huge money-making machine. To make a difference, Craig aimed to give more emotional depth to the character. Did he succeed? Well, he won't be doing it for the third time if he didn't.
It is interesting to note that the Bond series is older than Craig, making it more difficult for him. He is not just playing an icon but also continuing a legacy. In fact, the franchise received protests, saying that Craig is not appropriate for the role primarily because Bond is tall, dark and handsome, traits that Craig definitely does not have.
But when Casino Royale was released on November 14, 2006, his performance was highly acclaimed. Apart from it, the film grossed more than $500 million worldwide, making Casino Royale the highest grossing Bond film to date. Perhaps Craig's success could be credited to his philosophy that he would not copy nor improve anything that the previous Bond actors did.
